Happy Friday to you... hope you have a great day, followed by a fun and relaxing weekend. I've been enjoying hearing about what's keeping you busy and bringing you joy these days. Continue to keep in touch when you can, I miss you.
When I last wrote we were just getting ready to leave for Tzfat, a mountainous town in the north. It was SUCH a great trip. There was a Klezmer Festival on Thursday night and then Shabbat with great friends at Livnot. Being in Tzfat brings back the best memories for Mark and me, the air is magical in that place. :) We drove with two friends from HUC, who happened to also be heading to Tzfat, so we had great company on the way there and back. One of our friends had been living on a kibbutz for the last 6 months and we stopped by on the way to pick up some of her things, take a tour, and have lunch in the HUGE dining room. Kibbutz life is so interesting and we loved having the chance to see a "day in the life" of kibbutzniks (as the residents are called). By the way, if the word "kibbutz" doesn't mean a thing to you, let me know and I'll give a more detailed description. :)
The week began with the arrival of the rest of Mark's classmates and their families. The 15 of us who were already here met the new group at the airport and spent the next couple of days helping them get settled. The orientation started on Wednesday, with the formal introduction to the program by HUC. So far, so good. Lots of great new people to get to know and friendships to be formed.
One of the highlights of the week was the double date we had at midnight on the roof with our good friends, Jay and Julie. On the roof? Yes, and for a good reason - a beautiful meteor shower. Jerusalem's lights aren't quite as "intrusive" to the night sky as LA's, so it was a perfect place for such an experience.
And finally, last night, I painted pottery with my great friend (and maid of honor), Nili. It was so relaxing to dive into a couple projects, listen to some music, and spend time with someone very special to me. Life is certainly good -- I feel so lucky to have incredible people in my life.
Almost time for another Shabbat -- the best 24(actually 25) hours of the week in Jerusalem. So, until I write again, take good care of yourselves and each other.
Love,
Rachel Ann
P.S. Attached you will find one of our photos from Italy. Can you guess who it is? Maybe he was there to replace a "lost" pair of gloves (hint, hint). :)
