Since I write these updates on Friday, I sometimes forget to mention what happened all the way back on Shabbat (Friday night and Saturday). However, last week was such a celebration that it's the first thing that comes to mind when I think about this week. The whole group was finally together here in Jerusalem. We went from a small group of 15 last week to a huge group of 50+ with tons of energy and singing and dancing and playing and talking and studying and eating yummy food. Mark and one of his classmates led the singing after dinner on Friday night and it was so exciting to be a part of a group with lots of spirit - the singing and dancing went on well into the night and then the pleasure of Shabbat continued the next day. So great!

Then Mark began his ulpan (Hebrew studies) on Sunday and I began working full-time on a video that I'm making for a friend's bar mitzvah celebration. I'm still learning the video editing program, so it was a week of discovery, challenges, creativity and, most of all, fun. I absolutely love it. In fact, when I'm finished with this project I'm planning on doing some advertising to hopefully get some clients here. We shall see... :)

Even though I was completely absorbed by the video-making, I actually broke away from my computer a few times this week for some human-to-human contact (imagine that :). I started one of my volunteer projects at a place called "The Best House in the City." It's a home for the aging and there are about 10 English speaking residents who I will be visiting on a rotating basis. There are 2 residents whom I will see every week, though, one to give computer lessions to (how cute is that!) and the other one to take a daily walk. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to my weekly visits there. Sunday I'll start another project called "A Package From Home," which sends care packages to Israeli soldiers (http://www.apackagefromhome.org/index.htm). I've also been continuing with my regular activities -- working out at the Y, seeing friends, reading, etc. I continue to feel very blessed to be here, to share this experience with Mark, and to have this time to develop interests and continue my life-long quest of learning and growing some every day.

I have to run for now. And sorry to say, but there weren't any star spottings this week, so I don't have any funny pictures to share. :)

Love,
Rachel Ann
